« Interview of Danny VARANNE » 2002
• Since how long do you perform the globe ? I began riding in the globe with my brothers in 1991, before that we presented another motorcycle show called the wall of death, which belonged to my father. We grew up around bikes. • Do you consider your activity as a normal job ? First, as a passion, but to do it well we must not forget that it's work, to do the most profesionaly as possible. • Your show is amazing, how do you do it ? Years of work, all come slowly, little by little. You must practice, study, see your own mistakes, look at the other teams, trade technics and dare. • What about syncronisation ? The act is synchronized at 70%, the rest is the reflexes of each rider. There is no logical mathematics. We cross each other at a speed of 80 kmh around into a small diameter. I can tell you, you have to react fast !!! • Are you scared ? To do this work long, you must feel a certain dread of the globe. Learn to know one own limits without burning steps. Otherwise, without fear the rider will take more risk and there would be more crashes. So he will be afraid and never able to do some extremes figures necessary in a good globe of death act. • Have you ever had a crash ? Yes! • What do you feel when you are riding ? The body-weight is heavier because of the gravity force and the faster you go, the heavier you feel. Then, you see your partners pass to a few centimeters of your front wheel. But if you have good control, the feeling is great! More you ride, more you want to go faster, you dont want to stop, just full throttle and think fast !! • What is your best souvenir ? The one coming now to my mind, it was a show we had done in a city of Taiwan by night. The globe was built on a monument place raised on a platform, in the air. We were visible kilometers around, and we could see the whole illuminated city, that was magic. •And the worst one ? It is not a bad souvenir, but the hardest one, was three days two nights without sleeping. A show in London for the 20th birthday of Action Man. Because of a windstorm, the ferry took eight hours to cross the sea instead of one hour. We arrived then in Soho, London and straight away we took the globe, piece by piece to the third floor of a parking place. It took all day. The event was all night long and then we pulled everything down. All this for one show! But, no regrets, we where at the Action Man party. Source © Hot Bikes - D.M. |
